Stockholm:
The 2025 Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three American scientists — John Clarke, Michael Devoret, and John Martinis — for their groundbreaking contributions to quantum technology and superconducting circuits.

The Nobel Prize, named after Swedish chemist and industrialist Alfred Nobel, has been presented annually since 1901. It recognizes individuals and organizations whose work benefits humanity. It is considered one of the most prestigious awards in the world.

The prize is awarded in six categories: Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature, Peace, and Economic Sciences. Each Nobel laureate receives a gold medal, a diploma, and a cash award. The award ceremony takes place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.

This year’s Nobel announcements began yesterday with the Medicine Prize, followed today by the Physics Prize.

The three laureates — Clarke, Devoret, and Martinis — have been recognized for their pioneering work that laid the foundation for the development of quantum computing, a technology expected to revolutionize information processing and computation in the coming decades.
