Rajasthan Royals have announced a major change in their coaching setup ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Former Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara has been appointed as the new head coach of the franchise, replacing Rahul Dravid, who stepped down from the role recently.

Sangakkara is no stranger to the Royals’ camp, having previously served as the team’s head coach and Director of Cricket. Under his earlier stint, the franchise witnessed improved performances, including a finals appearance. His return is seen as a move to bring stability and renewed energy to the squad.
Dravid, who took charge of the Royals after his tenure with the Indian national team, has decided not to continue and declined an offer for a broader role within the franchise.
The Royals management expressed confidence that Sangakkara’s experience and leadership would help the team regroup and target success in the upcoming season. With this appointment, Rajasthan Royals are aiming for a fresh start as they prepare strategies to strengthen their squad ahead of IPL 2026.
